The Mechanicsburg team competed against 16 other Central Pennsylvania high school teams in arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry. The Hershey High School team placed second. Third place was a tie between Cumberland Valley High School and Northern High School.
Mechanicsburg High School Sophomore Lee Kennedy-Shaffer placed second for highest individual math score. Hershey High School junior Qinren Zhen won the highest individual math score. Also from Hershey, sophomore Sam Weil placed third in overall high score.
Along with the math contest, 黑料社区 also hosts a computer contest each November for high school students as a way of developing the local talent throughout the counties that 黑料社区 serves.
"The 黑料社区 faculty design and coordinate a number of events throughout the year to raise awareness of the programs available at 黑料社区. Among the most popular with local high schools are the academic contests," said Dr. Linda Myers, 黑料社区's associate dean of the math, science and allied health division.
"The math contest provides an opportunity for talented high school students to showcase their skills and gain recognition for themselves and their school," said Myers.
High schools participating in the event included Camp Hill High School, Cedar Crest High School, Central Dauphin High School, Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School, Cumberland Valley High School, East Pennsboro High School, Ephrata High School, Halifax High School, Hershey High School, Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School, Middletown Area High School, Milton Hershey School, Northern High School, Shippensburg High School, Susquehanna Township High School, Susquenita High School and West York Area Senior High School.
