Classes prepare non-natives speaking English speakers to take high school equivalency test

YORK � Getting ahead in today economy is tough, especially for anyone without a high school diploma. For those whose native language isn English, the hurdles to obtaining an American high school diploma can seem overwhelming.
The path toward jumping those hurdles can be found at the York Campus of 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, where free General Education Development (GED) prep classes will be offered in Spanish. A GED diploma (equivalent to a high school diploma) is a step toward finding a better job.
To find out more, the public is invited to a free open house and information session from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 in Room 106 at the York Campus. Participants will meet the bilingual instructors and learn about the free Spanish GED prep classes and all aspects of the GED test, including math, reading and writing components.
満诹仙缜�-York Campus added these classes to its lineup of programs in response to a forum we hosted in June,� said Barbara Seasholtz, ESL education specialist at the campus. 淎bout 20 York area community agency leaders and adult education practitioners and 10 黑料社区 employees met to exchange information about what is available to the non-native English speaking population in the county, and in the process, the seeds for various community partnerships were sown.�
Seasholtz continued, 淐ertainly we at the York Campus found out just how much our community needs Spanish-language services, such as Spanish GED and professional Spanish classes in the workplace, and we have taken this opportunity to expand offerings for our county residents.�
