Continuing education courses at the Lancaster Campus provide opportunities for all ages

LANCASTER � Learn the basics of creating Pennsylvania Redware, one of the oldest pottery techniques in this country, or delve into the fine art of precious metal clay (PMC) by taking advantage of continuing education programs this fall at the Lancaster Campus of 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College.
The potters of Pennsylvania were the most prolific and artistic of all American Redware potters, using forms that were thrown, slabbed, coiled and hand built. In 淧ennsylvania Redware Pottery,� students will get an introduction to ceramic hand building techniques through a studio experience. Completed pieces will be glazed, fired and ready for use in the home. The class meets from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 4-25. The cost is $90.
If creating pottery using the wheel seems like a good challenge to tackle, try 淲orking Clay: Potter Wheel.� This class gives the novice a basic comprehensive instruction to transform clay using a potter wheel. Various techniques form clay preparation to finish glazing are taught. No prior experience is required. The class meets from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 21-Dec. 2. The cost is $200. In addition, a materials fee will be collected at the first class. There is an optional book available for purchase. Additional studio time is included at no extra cost.
Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is a revolutionary new material that is changing the jewelry world. It looks like clay and can be worked, rolled, cut and shaped like clay with simple tools. When fired by a torch or kiln, it turns to pure silver � just like magic. In 淧MC Basics,� students learn to make charms, beads, pendants or earrings. The class meets from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 21 and 28. The cost is $59. In addition, students will have to purchase supplies. An extra firing/tumbling fee will be charged.
淧MC Beyond the Basics� offers students the opportunity to take basic skills to higher levels. Students also will learn to paint organic shapes, make hollow forms, and set semi-precious stones or faceted cubic zirconium. To participate, students must have taken a PMC basic class or have previous experience. The class meets from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 10-24. The cost is $98. In addition, tool kits are available. Students will purchase their supplies, and an extra firing/tumbling fee will be charged.
For those who already have PMC skills, 淧MC: Silver Ring� lets you create your own unique, fabulous silver ring. Learn correct sizing, how to embellish, add stones and texture. Tuition includes the use of tools. Students purchase supplies in class and pay an extra firing/tumbling charge. The class meets from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.
Arts and crafts are just a few of the programs available this fall at 黑料社区 Lancaster Campus. You can satisfy your thirst for knowledge by attending one of a dozen different 聽淟iving & Learning� seminars offered at the one-day event from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at Garden Spot Village, 44 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland.
淟iving & Learning� includes continental breakfast, buffet luncheon and three 90-minute courses, ranging from history and current events to Renaissance Art and self defense for seniors.
The cost is $45 with a registration deadline of Oct. 9. Luncheon will be served from 11:45-12:30 p.m.
