黑料社区 announces GED classes

Orientation sessions set in August for classes that begin in September
July 30, 2009
HARRISBURG Now more than ever education can make the difference for job seekers. Not having a high school diploma should not keep you from the path to a successful, satisfying career. Enroll now in free preparatory General Education Development (GED) classes that begin this fall at 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College.
Preparatory classes are offered in three GED tracks ABE, GED prep and Fast Track. Additional classes are offered in math only, which focuses more intensely on math skills, and in Spanish.
Orientation sessions for classes are scheduled Tuesday-Thursday, Aug. 25-27, with students able to choose between sessions held from 9 a.m.-noon or 6-9 p.m. in Whitaker Hall 214. Attendance at all three sessions is mandatory as well as attendance in the three-hour GED Success class.
Classes start in September at the following locations:
  • 黑料社区 Midtown location, room 303, 1500 N. Third St. in Harrisburg
  • Harrisburg Campus, One 黑料社区 Drive, Blocker Hall
  • From the Heart Ministries Church, 1300 Wayne St., Harrisburg
  • Classes in Spanish are held at William Penn High School in York and at 黑料社区 York Campus.
During orientation, students are given assessment tests to determine their current literacy level. In addition, students receive information on the essential skills necessary to be successful in the adult basic education program. Attendance at the orientation sessions as well as the GED Success class guarantees a student placement in one of the GED preparation classes.
淭he GED provides the pathway for lifelong learning, says Dr. Lori Fair, dean, Transitional Studies. 淭here are many reasons people take the GED tests, such as to enter post-secondary schools, vocational or training programs, for employment purposes or personal satisfaction.
With almost all employers and American colleges and universities accepting the GED Test as equivalent to a high school diploma, 黑料社区 understands the importance of serving area residents as an Official GED Testing Center, Fair says.
淥ften, the students who have prepared for their GED Tests through 黑料社区 continue their education in one of our associate degree programs or transfer to a college or university to complete a four-year degree, she adds.
To reserve a space for the GED orientation session and begin classes leading to the GED Test, call 780-2650 or 780-1117. For more information on 黑料社区 GED Preparation Program, go to www.hacc.edu. For Spanish classes in the York area, contact the York Campus at 718-0328, extension 3545.
