Public invited to find out how geographic information system (GIS) technology, contributes to their daily lives

Harrisburg, PA � The world of geographic information system (GIS) technology contributes to our daily lives, but few grasp how important this technology is in today world.
The uses and possibilities of GIS technology are vast. GIS technology, for example, is used with GPS-enabled cell phones. It is a computer-based mapping tool that takes information from a database about a particular location, such as streets, buildings, water features, and terrain, and turns it into informative visual layers that enable businesses, planners, law enforcement, policy analysts, and others to make informed decisions about their communities.
Find out more about this technology during a free GIS Day celebration co-sponsored by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College. The public is invited to drop in between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 黑料社区 Midtown site, 1500 N. Third St., Harrisburg.听Free parking is available off Reily Street between Third and Fourth streets.
Visitors will see GIS applications in action through live demonstrations, workshops and interactive games. 听GIS Day, a global event, is held annual on the Wednesday of the National Geographic Society Geography Awareness Week (Nov. 16-20).
