Public invited to free evening of music at 8 p.m. Dec. 9
Dec. 4, 2009
Harrisburg, PA Wildwood Singers will present Light and Darkness, the group 2009 winter choral concert, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center theatre on the Harrisburg Campus of , Central Pennsylvania Community College.
The presentation is directed by Tina Bakowski, associate professor of music. It is free and open to the public.
The concert will explore aspects of light and darkness in human experience: how the capacity for oppression, cruelty and despair is balanced by the capacity for courage, compassion, and hope. The musical selections have been inspired by diverse settings: from a concentration camp in Terezin, to war-torn Bosnia, to the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa, to the twisted, fictional world of the musical, Sweeney Todd. Selections include The Closed Town by Robert Convery, The Heavens are Telling by Franz Joseph Haydn, Elliot Levine arrangement of Al Hanisim, Kurt Bestor Prayer of the Children, and the South African freedom song, Akanamandla.
In honor of this joyous holiday season, there also will be music to celebrate the creation of our world, the miracle of Chanukah, and the wonder of Christ birth.
Members of the Wildwood Singers are Matthew Darhower, Jennifer Fetterhoff, Sean Fortney, Michael Gibson, Kristin Healy, Jared Heisey, Nicole Huber, Franklin Mosley, Christopher Ruble, Rachel Rupp, Meghan Settino, Jessica Trout, Chelsea Woods, Amber Zambrana and Michael Vajdic. Student accompanists will be Franklin Mosley, Christopher Ruble and Rachel Rupp.
