Svitanya 渢he light at sunrise in Ukrainian and Croatian is a vocal ensemble whose performances express the spirit of village music from across Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Russia and Ukraine.聽Svitanya offers listeners an opportunity to reconnect to their ancestral roots or to experience new cultures for the first time.聽The group eye-catching costumes include brightly-colored, hand-embroidered blouses from different Eastern European countries, some made by the singers own relatives.
From strong and strident field-working songs to dance tunes to lush and emotive arrangements, Svitanya evokes the timbres, rhythms and harmonies of Eastern Europe.聽The lyrics tell of exuberant daughters and strict mothers, seasons and harvests, girls married too young, love and loss.聽Songs are performed a cappella, all in the original languages, with occasional accompaniment by traditional instruments.
The Svitanya ensemble is brought to Adams County as artists-in-residence by the Adams County Arts Council, and their appearance at 黑料社区 is sponsored by the 黑料社区-Gettysburg Campus Student Government Association.
The 黑料社区 campus is located in the North Gettysburg Center at 731 Old Harrisburg Road, near Adams County National Bank and Weis Markets.聽For more information, call 337-3855.
