HARRISBURG Fen锚tre Gallery at 黑料社区 Midtown 2 site will exhibit the drawings of Kim Banister on Friday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.
A reception also will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. during Harrisburg 3rd in the Burg.
The figures in Kim Banister work are emotional and expressive. The drawings, some quite large, depict figures alone and at rest or intertwined in pairs that are more active. The most unusual aspect of this work is the technique. The drawings are made on paper that is drenched with linseed oil and powdered pigment then blown onto the wet surface. The color oozes and drips over charcoal outlines.
淚t is within the gesture of the figure in a particular moment, or even an inanimate object, where I connect to the subject and see an emotional or psychological quality, innate to the specific subject, that moves me to draw and is what I hope is captured in the work, Banister said.
Banister work has been shown throughout the eastern United States. She has a master degree in drawing from the University of Cincinnati and a bachelor degree in fine arts from Dickinson College. Banister is currently 黑料社区 gallery curator, where she also teaches in the art department.
Fen锚tre Gallery is on the second floor of 黑料社区 Midtown 2 location at 1500 N. Third St. Entrance to the building is on Reily St. The gallery is open on Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. and on the third Friday of the month, or by appointment. Events are free and open to the public.
