HARRISBURG 揟he Live at Rose Lehrman performing artist series and the Rose Lehrman Arts Center of 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, will be recognized by Theatre Harrisburg with the 2012 Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts in the Capital Region.
The gala awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 29, beginning at 5 p.m.
The Arts Awards are presented annually at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg in recognition of one outstanding individual and one organization for distinguished service to the arts. Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra Maestro Stuart Malina is the individual recipient.
聽満诹仙缜 Live at Rose Lehrman series just completed one of its highest seasons in attendance, with 93 percent capacity and eight sell-out performances out of a 10-event season, said Teri Guerrisi, director of the Live at Rose Lehrman series. 淎fter finishing this incredible 2011-12 season, we are elated to accept the 2012 Arts Award. And, it a very fitting tribute to the Lehrman family legacy that Lois Lehrman Grass will serve as honorary chair of the Arts Awards Host Committee.
黑料社区 Rose Lehrman Arts Center is also home to the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery, which exhibits collections, the works of local artists as well as artists of national and international renown. The gallery also hosts visiting artists for workshops and lectures that are free and open to the public.
Currently the gallery features juried selections of student work in the Student Honors Exhibit through May 4. There are nearly 400 art majors in 黑料社区 art department with a large number of non-majors. Students are enrolled in courses in traditional media such as painting, drawing, photography and ceramics. More unusual course offerings are glass blowing, jewelry and typography.
黑料社区 theatre program is led by accomplished performing, lighting, costuming and set design professionals, including a newly named Fulbright Scholar faculty member. Students from the program transfer to four-year colleges and universities with a solid foundation in performing arts while others move directly into jobs in acting and performing arts.
Since 1989, 黑料社区 Theatre for Young People has provided an affordable venue for area young people to celebrate and gain exposure to every aspect of theatre including, but not limited to, acting, dance, makeup, puppetry, playwriting, and designing sets, costumes and light.
Students have also achieved honors in 黑料社区 nationally ranked photography program. This week 黑料社区 graduate and member of The Patriot-News photography staff Sean Simmers was part of the news team that won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting for its coverage of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse case. He also was a recent nominee for a Pulitzer Prize in photography and has won other national honors.
