Complete Registration for 黑料社区 Spring 2015 Classes in One Stop

Pennsylvania oldest community college is opening registration for spring 2015 classes on Nov. 10, 2014, for new students. More than 150 programs, including 10 fully online degree programs and more than 300 online courses, are available through 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College.

黑料社区 provides the opportunity for students to complete an Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS), Associate in Applied Science (AAS), Certificates of Proficiency or a diploma. From the liberal arts to mechanical engineering, 黑料社区 provides options with its flexible schedules, financial aid, degree availability and variety of programs, such as accounting, civil technology, marketing, medical assisting and more.

Approximately 27 percent of 黑料社区 students complete their first two years at 黑料社区 and transfer to a four-year college or university. Examples of transferrable majors are communications, criminal justice, physical science or social science.

New students should visit www.hacc.edu/NewStudents to get started or stop in and enroll on Nov. 19, 2014, from 1-7 p.m., at any of the five campuses during 黑料社区 One-Stop enrollment event. It an opportunity for individuals to complete an application for admission, learn about financial aid options and scholarships, complete placement testing and register for the spring 2015 semester all in one day. There is no application fee. Visit www.hacc.edu/onestop to register for the event.

Registration for current students opens Oct. 27, 2014, at 8 a.m.

Live at Rose Lehrman Continues Celebration of 40th Anniversary with BalletX and Janis Ian in November

The Live at Rose Lehrman artist series continues its 40th anniversary celebration with two upcoming performances in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on 黑料社区 Harrisburg Campus.
  • BalletX, Philadelphia premiere contemporary ballet company, comes to 黑料社区 on Nov. 13, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. The performance unites world-class choreographers with an outstanding company of dancers to forge new works of athleticism, emotion and grace. Through the vision of award-winning founders and artistic directors, Christine Cox and Matthew Neenan, BalletX challenges the boundaries of classical ballet. Tickets are $34 and $40 depending on seating location.
  • Janis Ian will perform at 黑料社区 on Nov. 21, 2014, at 8 p.m. The Grammy-award winning voice of a generation, Ian brings her prolific singer-songwriter career to the stage in an intimate one-night-only concert. Following the performance, Ian will host a post-show meet-and-greet for all patrons. Tickets are $34, $40 or $50 depending on seating location.

黑料社区 Foundation Allocates More Than $229,000 for 黑料社区 黑料社区 and Projects

The 黑料社区 Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to raise private contributions in support of 黑料社区, has approved $229,335 in funding for projects critical to the mission of the College. This funding is made possible through generous contributions from individual and organizational donors.

Carter, Ph.D., APR, vice president of college advancement at 黑料社区 and executive director of the 黑料社区 Foundation. 淲e are grateful to our donors who selflessly give to provide opportunities for our students to grow and thrive in a competitive marketplace. A gift to the 黑料社区 Foundation is truly an investment in the future of our students.

The funding from the 黑料社区 Foundation will be used for the following purposes:
Purpose of 黑料社区 Foundation Funding Benefit to Students and the College Fund Amount
  1. Athletic Vehicle Transportation for the Athletics Department
The purchase of a 15-passenger bus will provide transportation to away games for students involved in the College athletic program. It will be available for student field trips and student recruitment visits when not in use by the athletics program. $51,000
  1. Patient Transport Equipment for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) 黑料社区 at the Sen. John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center
The purchase of three stair chairs, a standard piece of equipment specifically used by emergency medical providers, will be utilized for classroom training of students at 黑料社区 campuses. The purpose of this project is to replace and update required EMS training equipment across a variety of certification programs. $7,046.10
  1. Portable Flammable Liquid and Gas (FLAG) Firefighting Props for the Sen. John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center
The funds will be used to purchase a towable trailer with four portable FLAG props for training, certification training and competition. These devices provide less environmental impact than the current practices required to dispose of flammable liquids and gasses. It is a safer operation and provides for portable support off-site training classes. $130,000
  1. Structural Firefighter Protective Clothing Washer and Drying Cabinet for the Sen. John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center
The funds will be used to purchase a washer/extractor to clean structural firefighter protective clothing and a drying cabinet to hang the clothing. $26,023.23
  1. Thermal Imaging Camera for the Sen. John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center
The funds will be used to purchase thermal imaging technology that will allow students to look through smoke to detect fire and measure changes in temperature. These devices are used in flashover and hazardous material training. This provides support in firefighter safety and survival and structural search and rescue training. $10,266.20
  1. Portable Generators for Training Support for the Sen. John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center
Purchase of this equipment will provide portable power at the various props and training areas on the training grounds to support fire and emergency services training classes. $4,500
  1. Support for a Lecture and Exhibit at the Art Gallery at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center
The funds are for the 淢ilt Friedly: Harrowed Fields lecture and exhibit of the visiting artist sculptural works in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center rose garden. $500
Total $229,335.53


Gettysburg Campus Hosts Panel on Transgender and Queer Health

黑料社区 will host a panel on transgender and queer health sensitivity on Nov. 18, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. in the Robert C. Hoffman Community Room at the Gettysburg Campus. The event will feature a panel of community members who have transitioned or have advice for transgender or queer youth, teens and adults seeking medical care.

黑料社区 nursing student Petra Hayden-Wisnewski collaborated with the Student Life and Multicultural 黑料社区 Department to bring this informative program to life and educate others about queer and transgender sensitivity in medical care. The program is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

黑料社区 Professor to Lecture on Batman

Explore the world of Batman, the iconic comic book superhero, in this free honors lecture, 淎 String of Pearls: Memory, Mystery & Batman, scheduled Nov. 12, 2014, from 4:15-6:15 p.m. in Room 204 of the Cooper Student Center at 黑料社区 Harrisburg Campus.

Brett Stumphy, Ph.D., English professor at 黑料社区 Lebanon Campus, will present the lecture in honor of the 75th birthday of the Batman comic book series. He will explore cultural narratives and identity politics in Batman.

Comics and Paperback Plus in Palmyra will distribute copies of Green Lantern and Justice League of America #1 comics at the event.
