The symposium will celebrate students work from various academic programs, such as engineering and arts. It will also provide an opportunity for the community to see the students' successes through their presentations on various subject matters.听

淭his is the third year 黑料社区 has conducted the student symposium. It is a way to highlight our students and the great work they do. It also provides students and community members the opportunities to interact and learn about all the options available at 黑料社区, said Kim Ketelsleger, 黑料社区 professor of mechanical engineering technology.

The symposium will be held in Room 206 of the Midtown 2 - Evangelical Press Building, 1500 N. Third St., Harrisburg, PA 17102. Please contact Ketelsleger at kaketels@hacc.edu by Nov. 13 to register.

黑料社区 Gettysburg Campus Dedicates Mechatronics Lab, Classroom

The Gettysburg Campus of 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, held a dedication ceremony for its new mechatronics lab and classroom on Oct. 29, 2015. The lab and classroom space is approximately 2,900 square feet and hosts the required high-tech industry equipment needed to conduct hands-on instruction with students in 黑料社区 new Mechatronics Program.听

Students provided demonstrations on the motor control boards and the power transmission unit.
Speakers included John J. 淪ki Sygielski, Ed.D., 黑料社区 president; Gary Laird, Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce president; Robin Fitzpatrick, Adams County Economic Development Corporation president; Zachary Brown and Samuel Effland, 黑料社区 mechatronics students; and Shannon Harvey, 黑料社区 Gettysburg Campus vice president.

Most graduates of this program will enter the local workforce with jobs to maintain, refit and repair automated equipment. As such, it is important that they use current local industry equipment whenever possible. This facility allows students to work extensively with industrial components donated by local companies.听

Students who enroll in this program can earn a certificate in nine months. The program is a full-time, day program offered Monday through Thursday, and includes eight technical hands-on courses, industrial math and college-level English.听 听

Mechatronics is a high-tech field that encompasses a wide variety of careers from technician to engineer with many opportunities for specialization. Any place there is the design, deployment or use of an automated system, mechatronics technicians and engineers are required.听

New Welding Program Coming to 黑料社区 York Campus

A demand for skilled welders equals an opportunity for York County residents and 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College.

淲ith the aging workforce and the weekly inquiries we receive from companies looking for skilled welders, we know there are jobs available. This also means individuals need training to pursue those jobs, said Marjorie Mattis, interim vice president of 黑料社区 York Campus.

Starting Jan. 19, 2016, students can enroll in a one-year, 24-credit welding program at the campus. Students will learn to interpret welding blueprints and the techniques of oxy fuel welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding. Graduates will earn a diploma.

淵ork County is the fourth largest manufacturing county in Pennsylvania and is comprised of over 600 manufacturing companies. Welding has always been a demanding occupation in York County, and wee excited to be able to provide the educational resource for individuals to gain the skills needed for this high-demanding occupation, said Mattis.

黑料社区 Rose Lehrman Art Gallery to Showcase Student Photography

Students from the award-winning photography program at 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, will display their best work Nov. 20 through Dec. 11, 2015, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus.

The Student Honors Photography Exhibit is free and open to the public weekdays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. All are invited to a reception in the gallery with the students Dec. 3 from 5:30-7 p.m. In addition, many of the photos are for sale.

淏eing chosen for the show gives students a real sense of accomplishment. It is important for the students to see their work in a professional exhibit next to the work of their peers, said Garrick Dorsett, 黑料社区 photography professor.

Students are invited to submit up to two prints from each of their photography classes. Art faculty jury the work and select nearly 100 photos to hang in the gallery. The collection covers a variety of subject matter, including landscapes, portraits, still life, nudes and architecture. Many students now produce their work digitally, but there are still some who produce using film and darkroom development.

The 黑料社区 photography program consists of a large traditional black-and-white photo developing lab, 14 individual color dark rooms, a digital photography classroom and a photography 淣orthern Light studio with retractable roof.

Since 1988, 黑料社区 students have competed in photography competitions with more than 2,000 other colleges and universities and have finished in third place or higher. Students have been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize award, have been employed as photographers for local newspapers or have gone on to earn additional degrees at higher education institutions.

Fall gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7 p.m. or by appointment. For more information, please contact Shawn Williams at smwillia@hacc.edu or 717-780-2478 and visit the gallery on 黑料社区 website and on .

The Rose Lehrman Art Gallery receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
