$745,475 in Scholarships Awarded by ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Foundation

HARRISBURG, Pa. “ The ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Foundation awarded $745,475 in scholarships to 621 students at ºÚÁÏÉçÇø, Central Pennsylvania Community College, for the fall 2015 and spring 2016 terms.

For this academic year, students received scholarships or awards from contributions to the ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Foundation from private and corporate donors throughout ºÚÁÏÉçÇø 10-county service area and beyond. The scholarships and awards are established to provide educational opportunities for students who are in need, who are studying a particular program, who excel academically and/or who meet other criteria.

The ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established in 1985 to raise private and corporate revenues in support of ºÚÁÏÉçÇø. In fiscal year 2015-16 the ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Foundation contributed more than $2.7 million to students, innovative academic programs, state-of-the art training equipment and modernized facilities.

Work, Life of Late Avant-Garde Ceramics Artist Featured at ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Harrisburg Campus
Exhibit opens Sept. 14, 2016, at Rose Lehrman Art Gallery

HARRISBURG, Pa. “ An exhibit of featuring avant-garde artist Victor Spinski ceramics will be on display in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of ºÚÁÏÉçÇø, Central Pennsylvania Community College, from Sept. 14-Oct. 6, 2016. A reception to honor the artist will be held in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on Sept. 29 from 5:30-7 p.m.

The exhibit honors the life and work of Spinski, a leader of the avant-garde ceramics movement in the 1960s and 1970s, who passed away in 2013. Spinski is known for experimenting with different techniques and materials, such as clay and glaze materials and modeled sculptures after everyday objects such as cups, jars and tea pots.

Spinski life was as unique and unusual as his art. He escaped the Nazi occupation of Poland with his parents, spending most of his childhood in refugee camps and military bases. After moving to the U.S. following WWII, he received a bachelor degree in Russian literature. He served in the Vietnam War, where he was severely injured. After receiving extensive rehabilitation, Spinski received his degree in ceramics from Indiana University and moved to Delaware, where he taught for 38 years before his retirement in 2006.

The Rose Lehrman Art Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday and 5-7 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, or by appointment.Ìý

ºÚÁÏÉçÇø received support from John Baker and Sally Van Orden, who helped bring this exhibit to the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery. The Rose Lehrman Art Ggallery also received state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth, and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
