黑料社区 Celebrates 2016 President Award Recipients
HARRISBURG, Pa. Winners of the 2016 President Award at 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, include three culinary instructors at 黑料社区 Harrisburg Campus and two York Campus employees.

黑料社区 President John J. 淪ki Sygielski, Ed.D., presented the awards during a recent breakfast reception. Recipients include:
  • Chefs Autumn Patti, David Mills III and Chad Brumbaugh for their work in relocating the Culinary Program from Blue Ridge Country Club to the Bruce E. Cooper Student Center. They worked tirelessly over a short timeframe of 11 days to ensure the relocation, installation and cleaning of dozens of pieces of equipment, utensils and smallwares were completed before the start of the fall 2015 term. They also reorganized the restaurant operations classes and worked to create a successful opening of the Chef Apprentice, the dining service at 黑料社区 Harrisburg Campus offered through the Culinary Arts Program.
  • York Campus employees Allyson Valentine, instructor of information science, and Errol Wizda, 听director of student life and multicultural programs, for establishing the 黑料社区 Con Student Research Conference and Competition. Now in its third year with over 300 students participating, 黑料社区 Con provides students a platform to engage in scholarly research and create a project or presentation related to any pop culture topic. In addition to increasing their knowledge and presentation skills, students also gain valuable life skills such as setting goals, time management and increasing social skills.听

The recipients were selected by the President Cabinet from among 16 nominees. The remaining nominees were presented certificates of appreciation. They include:

Each year, 黑料社区 celebrates employees who have provided exceptional service to the College with the presentation of the President Award. Recipients are selected based on their demonstration of one or more of the following criteria:
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and innovation in implementing and/or carrying out a project
  • Efforts that enhanced the College reputation
  • Efforts that resulted in increased efficiency or effectiveness with collegewide implication
  • Efforts that resulted in cost savings to the College

黑料社区 Celebrates Fall Sports Teams
HARRISBURG, Pa. The fall sports teams at 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, have been successful this season, posting winning records for the College with championship rounds still on deck for the women volleyball and men soccer teams this weekend.

The Lady Hawks will compete in the NJCAA Region 19 Volleyball Final Four Championship on Oct. 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at , taking on first place seed Northampton. This is 黑料社区 volleyball fifth straight playoff berth to the Tournament. Earlier this week, 黑料社区 defeated Bergen County Community College in Paramus, New Jersey, in the first round of play 3-2, securing their Final Four appearance.

Former high school star athlete, Dazjanique Williams of Cedar Cliff, was selected First Team All-Region and All-Conference. Teammate Monica Smith of Central Dauphin was selected Second Team All-Conference and Third Team All-Region.

The 黑料社区 men soccer team secured its third trip to the NJCAA Region 19 Soccer Championship Tournament on Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. The team first round opponent will be Bergen County Community College in Paramus. Coach John Recordon was named Co-Coach of the Year. Student-athlete Luis Velasco was selected to the First Team All-Conference and Third Team All-Region. Clemence Mwaseba was named to the First Team All-Conference.

The 黑料社区 golf team continues its success this year, bringing home a win in the Eastern PA Collegiate Conference (EPAC) Championship Tournament and finishing in first place in conference play. Golfer Kent Umberger led the way with the lowest total for the EPAC, followed closely by teammate Geoff Warke in second place.

黑料社区, Bloomsburg University Partnership Focuses on Skills Employers Seek
HARRISBURG, Pa. Project management, workplace diversity, communication and conflict resolution are key leadership skills sought by today employers. 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, and Bloomsburg University are working to prepare students in these skills.

Through this partnership, 黑料社区 graduates who complete an associate in applied science can easily transfer their 60 credits to Bloomsburg University to complete a 听at 黑料社区 Harrisburg Campus.

Interested students are encouraged to attend a free information session. Sessions are scheduled Oct. 27, Nov. 11 and 29 and Dec. 3, 2016, and will be held from 2-7 p.m. in Room 103 of the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on 黑料社区听Harrisburg Campus. Interested students can come at any time during a session to speak with employees from 黑料社区 and Bloomsburg University.

Most of Bloomsburg classes are held online and in the evenings to allow more flexibility for working students. Those classes that must be completed in person will be held at the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg. Part-time and full-time options are available.

Alumni may be looking for opportunities to advance their technical skills to grow in their positions, and our current students are learning the emerging technology and opportunities to grow into supervisory and managerial positions in the workplace, said Kathleen T. 黑料社区 STEP Academy Focuses on Improving Employability
HARRISBURG, Pa. Job seekers and others in the workforce can learn skills to become more employable in a four-week STEP Academy at 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College.

Through STEP which stands for Set goals, Take action, Expect success and Put in the work students will improve job readiness, learn the ins and outs of work culture and develop on-the-job skills. Topics include:
  • Communication
  • Conflict resolution
  • Critical observation
  • Problem-solving
  • Teamwork and collaboration

Classes meet weekdays in Midtown 1 of 黑料社区 Midtown Trade and Technology Center, 1523 N. Fourth St. Classes also can be provided on-site at an employer request. 听

黑料社区 will assist successful graduates with the next step toward training for high-priority jobs as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor.

New Artist Lecture and Workshop at 黑料社区 Lebanon Campus
LEBANON, Pa. Explore the creative process of 3D printing in 淭echnology and Art: The Creative Process Informs Innovation, a free lecture and workshop at the Lebanon Campus of 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, on Nov. 4, 2016, from 12:30-4 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room.

, an expert in 3D printing, will give a lecture from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and then lead a workshop for attendees to gain hands-on experience. The event is free and open to the public.

Lauerman mixes digital fabrication strategies and traditional craft techniques to create beautifully crafted clay art. He is a recipient of the Horizon Award from the in New York. His work has been exhibited widely, including recent exhibitions in Berlin, Detroit, Philadelphia and Chicago.

黑料社区 Theatre for Young People Presents 楾he Legend of Sleepy Hollow
HARRISBURG, Pa. 黑料社区 Theatre for Young People will present 淭he Legend of Sleepy Hollow, directed by Theatre Professor Brenda C. Eppley and based on Washington Irving American classic. The performance is scheduled on Nov. 19, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on 黑料社区 Harrisburg Campus.

Washington Irving story is brought to life through beautifully delivered storytelling and dynamic visuals, while weaving humor and chills with fast-paced action and memorable characters. This adaptation remains faithful to the original tale by highlighting the elements that are easily recognized: the arrival of Ichabod Crane, his conflict with Brom Bones, their rivalry to win the heart of the coquettish Katrina, one covered bridge that must be crossed and the ultimate encounter with the Headless Horseman. This performance is appropriate for third-grade students and older.

黑料社区 Employee Elected to IAAP Board of Directors
HARRISBURG, Pa. Juanita Mort,听 executive assistant to the vice president of information technology and chief information officer at 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College, has been elected to the board of directors for the (IAAP).

Mort will serve through June 30, 2017. She is a Certified Administrative Professional (CAP), with an Organizational Management (OM) specialty designation and a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS). She joined 黑料社区 in 2010.

IAAP is a 501 (c)(6) registered not-for-profit professional association for administrative professionals.听The eight-member board is the IAAP governance body with direct supervision and responsibility for its CEO and president. Candidates are nominated from among active membership, offer video speeches and are elected by members.
