From Vineyard to Table: Learn Winemaking and Grape Growing at 黑料社区!
GETTYSBURG, Pa. Beginning spring 2019, 黑料社区 Gettysburg Campus will offer a Winemaking and Grape Growing Certificate Program that can be completed in one year.

淭he campus was chosen due to the large number of wineries and tasting rooms in the region. This growing industry in Adams County provides opportunities for an interactive and hands-on approach that will be central to the program, said Holly Lukens, coordinator of corporate and business services in 黑料社区 Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division.

淪tudents will participate in sensory evaluation, learn the different characteristics of wine and how to best pair wine with food, and complete a 60-hour internship at a local vineyard, Lukens said.

In addition to classes on campus, online classes and tours of local vineyards will be offered. The program is designed to attract students who may be looking for a new hobby or considering a new career. Most classes will be held in the evenings or on Saturdays to accommodate students who are currently employed.

The curriculum is being developed with assistance from Mary Beth Seibert, 黑料社区 adjunct faculty member and owner of Knob Hall Winery in Clear Spring, Maryland. Seibert years of experience and input on the curriculum will help introduce students to all aspects of the industry, from the fundamentals of winemaking and grape growing to advanced winemaking skills.

The Hauser family, owners and operators of the Hauser Estate Winery in western Adams County, established the Helen Hauser Memorial Scholarship Endowment to provide scholarship assistance to students enrolled in the Winemaking and Grape Growing Program. Students who are residents of Adams County and enrolled in the program are eligible to apply. The application can be found at hacc.edu/noncredit-scholarship.

To learn more about the program or to enroll, please contact Holly Lukens at hblukens@hacc.edu or call 717-780-1179.
