In her artist statement, Dillon writes, 淭he printmaking process is repetitive, with both the carving of the linoleum block, to the act of creating the same image in multiple. Conceptually, these works find beauty in the patterns of the mundane. By using a familiar image over and over, they illustrate the day in and day out visuals of our everyday life.
听
Dillon is an adjunct art professor at 黑料社区 Lancaster and York campuses. She earned a bachelor of fine arts from Metropolitan State University of Denver in Denver, Colorado, and a master of fine arts in studio art from Pennsylvania State University, State College. Her work recently appeared at the Washington Printmakers Gallery in Washington, D.C., and Rubber City Prints in Akron, Ohio.听

听 Printmaker 楢merican Epic Exhibit on Display Jan. 21-Feb. 15, 2019 HARRISBURG, Pa. 淎merican Epic: A Series of Linocut Prints by printmaker will be on display Jan. 21-Feb. 15, 2019, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of 黑料社区, Central Pennsylvania Community College.
A Tennessee native, Shaw is currently working on a series of 50 relief prints carved from linoleum blocks that depict the epic story of America.
He has completed 28 prints in the series over the past nine years. He also continues to explore other mediums, techniques and collaborations as an extension of the American Epic prints.
淚 want to tell this story from my point of view as I see American life, and to create new allegories, narratives, iconography and symbolism based on my first-hand accounts and my personal baggage, Shaw said in his artist statement.
His study of Jose Clemente Orozco mural, 淭he Epic of American Civilization, was his initial inspiration, and led him to study Mexican printmaking and the works of other Mexican muralists, including Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros.
Prints from his 淎merican Epic series have exhibited nationally, including the Vanderbilt Divinity School, Nashville, Tennessee; 2016 Art on Paper Art Fair and the International Print Center (IPCNY), both New York, New York; and the Du Mois Gallery in New Orleans, Louisiana. Visiting artist and guest speaker appearances include the Vanderbilt Divinity School; University of Alaska Anchorage, Anchorage, Alaska; and the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, North Carolina.
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-7 p.m. or by appointment.
The gallery received state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
